Pima County Cancels Protecto 401 Approval for Interior DIP Coating
Pima County Wastewater Management (PCWMD) has identified performance characteristics of Protecto 401 ceramic epoxy lining that make it unacceptable as a coating for Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP) in the public sewer system operated by Pima County Wastewater Management. Effective immediately, Protecto 401 is no longer an approved coating for DIP sewer pipe.
All projects with a PCWMD construction permit date of October 15, 2007, or later, will not be permitted to install DIP with a Protecto 401 coating. All other projects will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, with the intent of limiting the amount of rotecto 401 DIP installed. Contractors will be asked to assist PCWMD in this effort, by exchanging ordered Protecto 401 coating with the approved alternate SP2000.
