Challenge

At Kimberly Clark’s paper mill, piping was leaking. Despite the fact that the stainless steel piping was coated with other epoxies and coal tar coatings, the wet paper slurry had created a thriving environment for a microbial attack. The microbial attack resulted in tiny pinholes causing the stainless steel piping to leak. The maximum piping life in this corrosive environment was only six months.

Solution

Kimberly Clark desperately needed a protective coating that would withstand the aggressive microbial attack. Because other coatings had not provided much success, only a small section of piping was initially lined with SC3000Y to see if it would withstand the service. Six months later the piping was inspected. Much to their surprise, the piping looking the same as the day of installation with no pinholes, and no leaks. At the Kimberly Clark plant, all replacement piping is now lined with SC3000Y.

Novocoat SC3000Y has provided a leak free solution and cost efficient solution to the harsh microbial attack.
